Gone Fishing and a Birthday Celebration . . .

A little picnic before we cast our lines.

Brendan and his friend John heading to the river.

Miss Sassy Pants.  : )

We've been enjoying these last few weeks of summer break before school and fall routines begin  again.  Last week we spent a few hours of fishing in our little village park that's right on the Hudson River.  It's such a peaceful place with the most wonderful views.  In the warmer months you'll see kayakers, boats coming and going, groups of young kids hanging out and people just wanting to sit and relax for a bit.  Only residents of Cornwall on Hudson are allowed so it keeps the crowds away  and, to be honest, the older I get the less I like crowds.  : )

This girl is a natural born fisherperson!!  You should see her cast!!  Her daddy showed her only once and she was casting like a pro in no time.  Her great grandfather (my grandfather who taught me how to fish) O'Brien was smiling down on her for sure!!

Brendan at the end of the pier.

My huge catch of the night.  : )  I think we caught the same little fish three different times.  Haha!!

Brendan and John.

Always singing!!!

It was such a beautiful night.   A little breezy for fishing with a bobber but perfect otherwise.

The train tracks that run alongside the park.

The sunset thru the weeping willows.

All those little white dots are bugs!!

The fishing fashionista!!!  Lol!!!

We also had another big event last week . . .

 This guy turned 21!!

He's had a tough couple of years after breaking his leg at work and moving away from all of his friends who used to be at our house every day.  He's moving in the right direction now and goes to orientation for electrical school tomorrow.  His dad and I tell him he doesn't have to know what he wants to do with the rest of his life but he needs to have a plan for now.  I adore Trevor with all of my heart and just want him to be happy.  He has so much to offer this world and has such a kind and loving heart.  It's time for him to spread his wings and fly!!

Me and my ginger baby!!  : )

I'm looking forward to blogging a little more often again once the kids are back in school!!

Happy Tuesday!! ~ Wendy  xo

Valentine's Day Just a Few Days Late . . .

On Tuesday (Valentine's Day)  I awoke to candy and flowers and a beautiful card waiting for me in the kitchen.  Thank you, my love.  : )  After I dropped Megan off at school I drove home wishing that I had my camera with me.  I haven't been taking many photos lately and I start to get a feeling of withdrawal when this happens.  The light was so pretty so my camera and I took a ride around town to see what caught our eye.  As usual, I wasn't disappointed.  We live in such a beautiful town and I took over 150 photos.  I went down by the river and into some little neighborhoods that I haven't been in before.  I thought I'd share a few of the hearts that I found scattered about.  My honey called me from work to ask if it was okay that he worked a few extra hours so that his co-worker that was coming in for the overnight shift could take his girlfriend out to dinner and score some points with her.  I remember those days of wanting to make the special occasions extra special.  We've been together for 11 years now. He makes me feel special and appreciated most every other day of the year.  He also knows I'm pretty much a sure thing.  No dinner and alcohol needed.  : )

A Rainbow and a River View . . .

We've been busy with packing, back-to-school activities and tying up loose ends with the sale/purchase of the houses.  The Universe knows when you need a sign that things will be fine.  We got that sign in the form of a beautiful rainbow the other day while driving to my nephew's birthday dinner.  : )

I also wanted to share a photo of the view at the end of the road where our new house is. If this isn't incentive enough to walk around the block, I don't know what is.  This is why our town is called Cornwall-on-Hudson.

In a few weeks the foliage will be changing and my camera will be busy.  We hope to be in the new house by Halloween.  Still taking it one day at a time here though.  : )

Many blessings for a very happy Friday and a wonderful weekend ~ Wendy

Some Random Photos and a Sunday Saying . . .

I've been taking my camera out and about with me more lately.  It's my true passion in life to take photos.  I pay closer attention to life's smaller details and all of the beauty that surrounds me.  I told my husband the other day that I look at everything as a photo opp.

The Hudson River on a recent foggy day.

Two years ago, I participated in a photo-a-day challenge that I found on a site called Fat Mum Slim.  You can find her blog here.  I stayed with it for almost a year but things got a little busy in my life so I decided to take a month off which, of course, led to about a year off.  We all know how that goes!!  : )

A very old grave in our local cemetery.

I'd been toying with the idea of joining the group again to light a fire under my butt to take more photos.  A friend of mine asked me if I had any pointers for her for taking photos.  I told her to go to the library and get one of those "Dummy" books that explains her camera if she doesn't have the manual any more but the real key is to just take lots of photos.  All you have to do is press the delete button on your camera if you don't like how they come out.

Megan at her ballet recital.

So many of us have this fear of being judged by other people and it paralyzes us and keeps us from doing things that we truly want to be doing.  I think one of the wonderful things about getting older is that you begin to realize it's all in your own head.  If someone has that much time on their hands to judge and criticize you then they need to find THEIR OWN passion!!

Deep in concentration!!  : )

Playing around with my camera. This is a shot of the moon out during a cloudy afternoon.

This is my next goal.  : )

Many blessings for a beautiful Sunday and a peaceful, passion-filled week ~ Wendy

'twas not to be on a mostly "Wordless Wednesday" . . .

This past Sunday morning, I got up bright and early (not too hard to do when you've just gained an hour thanks to "falling back"!!),  threw on my sweater and scarf over my jammies, grabbed my camera and drove down to Memorial Park in downtown Nyack to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse.  Unfortunately, there was too much cloud coverage for it to be seen but I was able to take a few other photos of the sights and sounds of the early morning.

Memorial Park is nestled along the banks of the Hudson River.  It's a popular spot in the warmer weather but was very quiet at 6:30 on a blustery Sunday morning.  : )

The ever-present seagulls were waiting for their next meal and were disappointed to learn it wasn't going to come from me!!  : )  The beautiful foliage in the background is on the Westchester side of the river.  Even though it's past peak at this point, it's still so beautiful.
Some houses along the river.
A blustery autumn sky.

These "luxury" townhouses were built in the early 1990's (if I remember correctly).  There were lots of unhappy people when they were first built.  Definitely didn't fit in with the small-town feel of the rest of the village of Nyack.

At the very end of the time frame for the eclipse, I did manage to catch a glimpse of the sun when the clouds broke just a little bit.  What a tease that Mother Nature can be sometimes!!!  Oh well . . .  maybe next time!!

Many blessings for a beautiful Wednesday ~ Wendy
