A Day in Cornwall . . .

On Tuesday, we ventured to Cornwall, NY to visit my mother for the afternoon.  It wasn't the best day weather wise but we still had lots of fun.

Upon arrival, we were greeted at the gate by Chloe and Seamus.  Chloe is my mom's New Foundland.  She is the most gentle and beautiful soul you'll ever meet.  When she looks at you she looks deep into your eyes like she's studying you.  When she was a baby, she looked just like a baby gorilla and had hair on her head that stood straight up.  I couldn't look at her without laughing.  It was my mother's dream to have a "Newfy" and she couldn't have been blessed with a more beautiful girl than Chloe.

At the other end of the spectrum, you have Seamus.  Seamus is a Highland Terrier ball of energy that my mother adopted from our local shelter last year after she had to have her beloved Yellow Lab put to sleep.  He is almost seven and adores my mother and Chloe but also wears the pants in the relationship and doesn't have a clue that he's a quarter of the size of his big sister.  Actually, about one tenth of the size!!   LOL!! 

Not much of a surprise that he's already spoiled rotten!!  : )

After lunch, we went to one of our favorite places in Cornwall called Jones' Farm.  It's a tradition for all the grandchildren to go there when they visit Nana. 

When you arrive, you're greeted by miniature ponies, chickens, ducks, goats and, if you're lucky, you catch a glimpse of the pig in residence.  The weather wasn't so great when we were there so I guess the pig decided it wasn't worth the effort to come out of the barn.  Oh well.  Maybe next time. 

Jones' Farm has the most wonderful pies and cookies and muffins and the BEST carrot cake you've EVER tasted!!!  We went home with a bag full of cookies and two loaves of Irish Soda Bread.  Grandma Doris, the Matriarch of Jones' Farm, used to only make it around St. Patrick's Day but, due to its overwhelming popularity, now makes it year 'round.  Nothing like a piece of soda bread and a cup of coffee for breakfast!!  Or anytime for that matter!!  : )

And if animals and food wasn't enough to make you want to visit, certainly the gift shop will clinch it!!  I don't think I ever leave without buying something!!  This year, it was green glass candle holders for my St. Patrick's Day table.  Didn't get a photo of them but will once my table looks pretty.

After one final goodbye to the animals, we headed back to my Mom's to drop her off before we ventured back home.  It was such a wonderful day and we're looking forward to returning to see the animals again in the spring.  I guess that's just around the corner, isn't it??  Works for me!!  : )
