Lighting Candles with a Heavy Heart . . .

Here in New York, our hearts are heavy with the loss of two of our NYPD officers that were killed while sitting in their patrol car eating lunch.  They were killed simply because of their uniforms.  Our country is in turmoil unlike anything I've ever seen in my lifetime.  I have many friends that are members of the NYPD.  A life long friend of mine is a sergeant.  His wife posted on Facebook this morning that their youngest son cried himself to sleep last night worrying that his dad wasn't going to come home from work.  Another Facebook friend posted yesterday that her son was friends with the son of the officer that was killed in Florida.  Seven children lost their father this weekend.  My heart is broken for all of them.

I'm sorry this post isn't light and airy today but I just didn't have it in me to pretend everything is okay.  I feel so helpless thinking about the world my children are living in and what is yet to come.  What upsets me even more is that my older kids are already so used to how bad things are getting that they don't even see that there's a problem.  So very sad to me.  : (

Many blessings for a peaceful and safe and beautiful day ~ Wendy

I couldn't agree with you more. The world is not what it was even 20 years ago. My heart goes out to the families who have lost loved ones in this senseless violence.

My heart has been so heavy since the shootings at Sandy Hook two years ago. Having grown up 30 miles from Newtown and being a teacher in my life before my girls it all hit far too close to home for me. I had hoped that in the wake of those tragic events that our country would come together and things would be more peaceful and united. Sadly, it seems to be getting so much worse instead of so much better. My heart is just breaking at how much hatred and violence is taking place lately. I, too, feel so helpless about the world my girls are growing up in. It seems we are taking so many steps backwards and it's just maddening. Hugs to you. xoxo
