" this moment " . . .

{this moment}
A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see.

Many blessings for a wonderful Friday and a beautiful weekend ~ Wendy

'twas a Happy St. Patrick's Day, Indeed!! . . .

Other then "Sunday Sayings," I've really been neglecting this blog.  We've had lots of goings on around here and I have so many photos to share.  The kids are off this week and so is my husband so it's a bit busy around here but I wanted to share some photos of St. Patrick's Day before we're on to Easter!!  : )

My nephew Danny, son Brendan and niece Taylor.
St. Patrick's Day is a big deal around our house.  My first husband was Irish and his heritage was a huge part of who he was.  This has trickled down to our three sons.  I guess with names like Connor, Trevor and Brendan McDonagh you can't help but be in touch with your Irish roots!!  : )

This year, we had two special guests for our St. Patrick's Day feast.  My niece Taylor and my nephew Danny joined us along with my mother, father-in-law and some neighbors.  It was a wonderful day and the food was outta this world!!!

My wonderful husband slicing the corned beef.

My wonderful husband has taken on the task of St. Patty's Day dinner.  This year, he started cooking the night before so we woke up to the smell of corned beef in the crock pot.  We have one crock pot and he cooked five of them this year.  Lots of complaints of not enough leftovers last year!!  He also made potatoes, cabbage and carrots.  My mother brought the Irish soda bread baked fresh that morning at Jones' Farm in Cornwall, NY.  (I've done several posts about Jones' farm.  One of my favorite places to visit!!)  It is a meal that we look forward to every year!!!!

My very Irish father-in-law.  He's from Galway, Ireland and has a brogue and an Irish wit and we adore him!!

Green tulips.

Glittery shamrocks.

Shamrock cookies for dessert!!

Our day ended with some Irish step-dancing compliments of Megan!!

And no St. Patrick's Day would be complete without Meggie's favorite pastime ~ a little jumping on the couch with her Daddy!!

It was a beautiful day filled with love and laughter, family and friends and LOTS of delicious food and we're already looking forward to next year although we've taken a family vote and decided a year is too long to wait for another corned beef and cabbage dinner.  Are you reading this, Honey???  : )

Many blessings for a wonderful Monday ~ Wendy

Resolutions . . .

My husband tells me I'm anti-social.  Anybody who knows me and is drinking coffee while reading this more than likely just spit it out.  All of my report cards read "Wendy is a good student but she socializes too much."  My mother would attest to that one.

My husband and my kids also say that I'm a homebody.  I will agree to this one.  I've always loved being at home.  I spent a lot of time in my room growing up playing the guitar, writing songs, listening to music and reading.  When I moved out and had my own apartment in my early 20's, I had a few years of going out almost every night with my friends and staying out until all hours and cursing the birds while I tried to fall asleep as they were beginning their day in the tree outside my window.

Our friends' dogs, Georgia . . .

and Penny.
When I met my first husband and got married and had a baby right away I loved being at home, playing house (for real this time!!) and doing the wife and mother things.  We did spend a lot of time with friends as we were all raising our kids at the same time and all needed some adult conversation.  I've been a stay-at-home mom for more than twenty years and God knows adult conversation is a very important thing!!  After my first husband passed away, I was very content being home and being with  my sons.  My incredibly wonderful friends and family kept us busy with dinner invitations and play dates and I had the occasional night out to myself but I would always feel like I needed to be with my boys.

A fire in the back yard.

Our friends put their Christmas tree in the back yard after they take the ornaments off of it.  It lights up the whole yard and looks so beautiful for another month or so.  I thought this was such a great idea!!

Then I met Jim who is the epitome of a social butterfly.  I swear he would strike up a conversation with a tree if he was alone in a forest.  His personality is what first made me fall in love with him.  Well that and his blue eyes and dimples!!  : )  We've been together for six years now and I truly am perfectly content just being with him and our children, in our little cottage, on a Friday night.  However, I've decided I'm going to make an effort to be more sociable this year.

So the other day when I went to pick up my middle son from our/his friend's house, I actually got out of the car and knocked on the door instead of texting him to tell him I was there (apparently, beeping your horn to let them know isn't "cool" anymore!!).   I was welcomed with open arms and stayed for a couple of minutes and ooooed and aaaaahed over their electric fireplace which I would've sworn was the real deal and then made definite plans for a family get together that actually included a day and a time.  I called my husband at work when I got home to make sure he was off the day we agreed upon and everything was a go!!

I thought this was such a great family Christmas present!!  It's a wooden "Connect Four" game that my friend, Suzanne, found in Toys R Us.  She leaves it right out on the coffee table for impromptu games anytime.

This past weekend we did it!!  Dinner with an absolutely wonderful family that we've known for years.  One of the nicest families you'll ever meet!!  We ate and drank and laughed and played music and talked about our childhoods and getting older and our children and our hopes and dreams for the future.  My social cup was completely filled when we left and I can't wait to do it all again!!

Megan having her first guitar lesson!!

This has inspired me to take my childhood guitar out of the garage to be re-strung.  I forgot how much fun it is to sit around and make music and, when Megan is old enough, Suzanne (who teaches piano and guitar) is going to teach her how to play it.

We've also decided, since we're going to be staying in our house now (more than likely) and have always wanted a fireplace, we're going to go the electric fireplace route.  They can heat your whole downstairs with the touch of a button, turn off at the touch of a button and are direct vent now right out the side of your house so you don't even need a chimney.  We're adding it to our "To Do" list.  Or should I say our "Honey Do" list?!!?  : )

Many blessings for a happy Tuesday ~ Wendy

Our Weekend . . .

This weekend we spent lots of time with family and friends.  On Saturday night, after Brendan's basketball game, we visited with our friends Dave and Cathy.  We met them a couple of years ago when we became a host family for the Fresh Air Fund.  Dave is the coordinator for the families in the county we live in.  He and Cathy are two of the warmest, most wonderful people you could meet and we feel so blessed to have them in our lives.

Dave and Cathy with Megan.
Their Christmas tree looks like it belongs in a department store window!!
Cathy has lots of adorable little Christmas touches all throughout the house including the stocking above with the three little handmade mice.

Brendan keeping the bench warm with two of his team mates that were injured from last week's game.

I also started my 7th (can't believe I'm even typing that!!) month of a Photo-a-day Challenge that I found on Fatmumslim's blog back in June.  If you love to take photos and to look at the photos of others this is the perfect challenge for you!!  There are amateurs right on up to professionals that participate and it really has been so much fun.  I've never stuck with a challenge this long before so you know it must be a good one!!  : )  If you'd like to check out any of my photos, you can find them on Flickr.  My user name is wendy0112.

I used this photo of Buddha in my garden for December 2nd's photo.

And to top off our weekend, we had two of our neighborhood girls knock on our door to sing Christmas carols for us.  They were so brave to do this and they did a wonderful job, too!!!  : )

And very stylish too, I might add!!!!!  : )

Many blessings for a happy day ~ Wendy

Valentine's Day Just a Few Days Late . . .

This year, our friends Susan and Anthony invited us all to their house to celebrate Valentine's Day. How many people can say they had the "Valentine/McDonagh" family to their house on V Day?!!? You would think the invitations would be stacked up on the dining room table, wouldn't you?!!?

As usual, the food and the company were wonderful.

Susan has been my friend since first grade and is also my friend who could give Martha Stewart herself a run for her money. Her home is impeccable yet you feel comfortable enough to put your feet on her coffee table. That, to me, is the ultimate compliment. She and I always joke about going on the show "Wife Swap" so her husband would appreciate all that she does more. I'm sure my husband would jump at the chance to be married to someone like her for a week. I'm not known for my impeccable housekeeping skills and having dinner on the table every nite. Oh well. He sticks around anyway so I must be doing something right. :)

I didn't tell the men (hubby and sons) that we'd be having chocolate fondue for dessert. To say it was the hi-lite of their visit would be a gross under statement!! They are all firm believers that you could dip pretty much anything in chocolate and it would be the best thing they ever ate.

Thankfully, there were just yummy things and Susan opted out of the bugs and worms. BLAH!!!!

This is Susan and Anthony's son, Garrett. He has the most gorgeous eyelashes and hair you ever saw. Why do the boys always make out in that department!! :)

This is their daughter, Sofia. She is in kindergarten and makes me truly look forward to having a daughter!! I know my hubby feels the same way about her!!!!!

What a bunch of happy faces!!!!!!

I have to add that Anthony can cook homemade pasta and sauce for us any day of the week!!!! Definitely Food Network worthy!!!!

Many blessings ~ Wendy
