Favorite Photos of the Week . . .

I've been taking my camera with me wherever I go.  It's made me so much more aware of my surroundings and I've discovered things that I wouldn't have seen had it not been thru the lens of my Nikon.

I've always had a fascination with red berries.  There's something so whimsical about them.  I'm not a big fan of the color red but red berries are a definite exception!!

I've driven past this little chair so many times and always tell myself I have to get a photo of it someday.  Yesterday, I drove past it and said the same thing.  This time, however, I made a quick u-turn and finally captured it!!  : )
And suddenly it's winter!!
Solitude.
Enjoying a refreshment!!
I visited our local cemetery to make sure all of our family members' graves were okay after Hurricane Sandy came thru.  I saw this angel on the ground.  It wasn't broken.  Just misplaced.  I think it's a perfect representation of how so many people in New York and New Jersey feel right now.  We are in the midst of a "new normal."  Trees everywhere, sad images on every newscast and in every newspaper.

If you'd like to see more of my photos, you can do so by clicking onto the Flickr link on my sidebar.  There are so many wonderful photographers that I've discovered thru Flickr.  Take a look.  I promised you won't be disappointed!!  : )

Pass the Antibiotics Please!! . . .

I've been feeling pretty crummy for the last couple of days.  Coughing, aches and pains, low grade fever, sore throat.  I thought for sure I had acquired my husband's strep throat but the doctor said it's just bronchitis.  He wrote a prescription for a z-pack and I was on my merry way.  I always wait a little bit longer than I probably should to run to the doctor.  I believe our bodies have immune systems for a reason and we need to rely on them a lot more than so many people do.  I think the reason antibiotics work so quickly for me is because I haven't built up much of a resistance to them.  Neither have my kids for that matter.  And, thankfully, they're not sick very often either.  : )

The union members of the company that my husband works for have been on strike for a little over a week now with no end in sight.  He works for Con Ed in Manhattan and is part of management.  He's been remanded to work 7 nights a week.  This means he works all night and sleeps all day.  We do get to see him a little bit in the morning when he comes home and a little bit when he wakes up.  I can feel myself getting back into "single mom mode" a little more each day that the strike goes on.  Other then not feeling well and starting to miss my husband sleeping next to me at night things are going well.  It looks like this strike may carry on thru the summer so we're digging our heels in and taking it one day at a time.  The "7 nights a week" schedule isn't going to last forever and God knows we could use the extra money to finish up all of the unfinished projects around the house.  Yes, indeed!!  : )

a photo a day . . .

Yesterday, I discovered a fantastic blog called Fat Mum Slim .  Chantelle is the blog's author.  For the last couple of months she's hosted a "photoaday" challenge.  Each day, for the month of June, she's listed a topic for a photo for that day.  If you click onto her website you'll see the list of topics for each day and instructions on how to participate. I'll be posting my photos here, on Pinterest and on Flickr where my member name is ctb003

I've always wanted to participate in something like this and she has some great topics for the month.  Don't worry that it's already the second day of the month.  I'm just starting today, myself.  You're not being graded on this.  Just have fun with it!!

My photo for June 1st that I just took today is of this morning's breakfast ~ homemade banana bread and DD coffee.

My photo for today, June 2nd, is of my "empty" breakfast plate and coffee cup.  Thought I'd combine the two photos since I got a late start on this challenge!!  : )

Let it Snow . . .

After a very nice three day weekend (thank you Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!!) the kids are back at school. They were hoping for a snow day today or at least a delay to school opening but it was not in the cards. There has been a dry pattern here in the part of New York where we live. The temps have gone up and down and so many people are sick because of it. The days are starting to get noticeably longer. I love the feeling of hibernating in my home this time of year but it just hasn't been the same without the snow. The sleds the kids got for Christmas have sat untouched in the garage and the season passes my husband bought for our local ski/snowboard resort are collecting dust. I know that one good snowstorm could turn this around so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. : )

Everything looks so much nicer covered in the white stuff. Especially the dog poop in the backyard!! : )

Testing, Testing, 1-2-3

I've been trying to figure out how to make my pictures bigger and here is my first attempt with a Flickr image. I'm not sure how this is going to come out but I'm crossing my fingers!! My mother surprised Megan and I with the most gorgeous vase of flowers a couple of weeks ago and one of the Gerber daisies still looks as gorgeous as the first day I received it. I had to share its beauty. : )
